Maybe you know that the peacock’s popular tail feathers are called “eye feathers,” but did you know that peacocks are notoriously territorial? An entire flock acting as a unit will investigate trespassers and threaten unfamiliar invaders by charging at them while screaming. They can also attack with sharp spurs called “kicking thorns” on their feet. The peafowl that live in the neighborhood adjacent to the one I used to call “home” in Phoenix never threatened me, but I certainly heard their (less than graceful) screams. I have to admit, that sound was a bit eerie at night.
